I've been meaning to write about this all week but a very bad cold (along with Addison and Fischer being sick) have kept me away! We are on the mend... I think, but it has been one yucky week around here. It's no fun being sick... it's definitely no fun being a sick mommy, and it is AWFUL being a sick mommy with sick kids at the same time. Talk about tiring!

Anyway, last Thursday, Scott and I picked the kids up from school and headed to Atlanta for the night. It was our first family vacation (even if it was only 1 night) that wasn't specifically to visit family.

We ate lunch after school, then hit the road, which worked out nicely since that is when Addison and Fischer usually nap. It took about 3 1/2 hours to get to our hotel, and they did great in the car! We got to our hotel and let them explore the room. Our original plan was to head to the Olympic Centennial Park nearby to let the kids run around. Unfortunately, it was pretty rainy... we did go to the park but it was a short trip because it started raining really hard, and someone (me??) forgot our rain gear!

Scott's sister, Julie, happened to be in town for work but was flying out Thursday night. We ended up getting to visit with her for about 30 minutes, which was nice. All the kids could talk about was seeing "Aunt Doolie" so I'm glad it worked out.

After that, we met up with one of Scott's good friend's parents, who happen to live in Atlanta. We hadn't seen them since our wedding so it was really nice. We all went out for pizza, and it was a great time despite getting soaking wet (even with borrowed umbrellas) on the way! They were nice enough to bring the kids little goody bags so that kept them quite entertained and gave the grown-ups a chance to chat, at least a little bit.

After dinner, we headed back to the hotel to let the kids take a bath, unwind and get to bed. We got a suite, so the bedroom part had 2 queen beds in it. Our plan was to put 1 kid in each bed (NO pack n plays!!!!), then Scott and I could go out into the living area of the room and not have to go to bed quite as early as the kids. We weren't sure how it would work out, but they did great! Then when Scott and I went to bed, he slept with Fischer and I slept with Addison. They are becoming such big kids! :) They slept great but were up SOO early.. around 5:00. And there was no chance of them going back to sleep.

So, we got up and headed downstairs for breakfast. Then we headed back up to the room to relax since we still had awhile to wait.

Then we got ready for our big day - our real reason for visiting Atlanta. The Aquarium!! I was so excited! :) I think the kids were too - we'd been talking about our trip for weeks. They were already pretty tired by the time the aquarium opened at 10, but they got a second wind once we got there and made it for a few hours. It was really neat and I'm sure we will go back at some point. Addison and Fischer really seemed to enjoy it!

One of my favorite parts (and I think theirs too) was when we first got there. There were 2 divers in this huge tank cleaning the glass. They kept waving to Addison and Fischer, and even came up to the glass to give Fischer a high five. These pictures are funny - at first he was freaked out and ran away. Then he went back!

After lunch, we decided it was time to go. They were very tired and tantrums were on the horizon. While we were walking back to the car we passed the playground at the Olympic park, so we let them play for awhile. Then we went the rest of the way back to the car. Fischer was asleep before we left the parking lot and Addison wasn't too far behind. They slept the entire 3 1/2 hours home!

It's so fun doing things like this as a family, and seeing new things through Addison and Fischer's eyes. They are at such a fun age for things like this and I can't wait to do another little family excursion!  The kids got to ride in style while walking back to the car...
